Join Kelly Brown, Brenda Mendoza and Carolyn Streets for an ASCD Community Panel on implementation of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) practices in schools on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. e.t.!

Kelly Brown is an Assistant Professor in the Center for Doctoral Studies in Educational Leadership at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and a consultant for LaMasters Group Educational Consulting. She is the leader of our Advancing Issues Regarding Race and Equity ASCD Professional Interest Community and the recipient of the 2019 Advocate of the Year Award presented by the Texas Council for Professors of Educational Leadership.

Brenda Mendoza is a Transitional Bilingual Education teacher for the West Aurora School District 129 in Illinois. She is a 2015 ASCD Emerging Leader and the co-chair for Whole Child Advocacy for the Illinois ASCD affiliate. Brenda published, “Whole Child Equitable Practices for English Learners through Culturally Responsive Practices” in ASCD EdAdvantage (December 2019, attached) and she is the 2022 recipient of the Impact award from the Latinx Education Collaborative.

Carolyn Streets is an English Language Arts teacher with the New Haven Public Schools in Connecticut. She is a Fulbright Scholar and an antiracist educator and researcher with expertise in liberatory pedagogy, incorporating ways and opportunities to recenter instruction around historically marginalized individuals, people, and voices. Most recently, she presented “Re-Centering the Gaze: Developing Anti-Racist Pedagogy and Teaching” at the Teaching African American Studies Winter Institute February 6–10, 2023 at the National Humanities Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. Carolyn is a 2022 ASCD Emerging Leader, and she consults on culturally centered models of instruction
