Hey there! My name is Meltonya Wakefield (she/her). I am a program coordinator at ASCD in Alexandria VA. I was born and raised in the DC Metro area. Currently, I am curious about how our reality will change once the pandemic is officially over. Something tells me "normal" will not be what we thought it was. 🤔

I'm looking forward to connecting with you!

Hi everyone! My name Megan Power (she/her). I am a 2016 Emerging Leader from sunny San Diego, CA. In my current role I am a co-founder and a Learning Experience Designer of Design39Campus, a public learner-centered school. I am curious about so many things. If I had to pick one at this very moment it would be... how is everyone doing and what has been challenging in our current situation and what has been surprising?

Good morning, Megan, and welcome to the ASCD Professional Learning Community! As you know, I'm doing well and I'm glad you are, too! My biggest challenge is also my biggest opportunity, to rethink and reinvent how we serve educators and the children they teach! This platform is one of the answers to that question. I am so glad you are here!

Welcome Megan (@mpower39)! We're so glad you've joined us. Working from home everyday has been a challenge for me. As much as I disliked the commute, I miss the separation of work life and home life.

HI, I'm Bill Dodds from McHenry, IL. I am Associate Director of IL ASCD and have been with our IL ASCD Affiliate as a board member or employee since 1985. I look forward to meeting folx on the ascdcommunity and hope to make new connections for our membership and other educators in IL and other states. In IL we are addressing the "unfinished learning" issue for students, teachers, administrators and parents through our virtual live and asynchronous models at www.illinoisascd.org. Our upcoming virtual journal will have the theme "Silver Linings" in which we look for the positives our educators have been able to accomplish in the year since the Covid model of education took hold.

Welcome @cindyassini! It's great to have you in the Community. I too wonder how educators are staying engaged. I would love to hear how elementary teams that are still teaching virtually are using their planning time and if they are as collaborative as they were when they were in the building. What are your hearing from the teachers your supervise?

Nice to “meet” you, Meltonya! Anecdotally, I think collaboration has gone up due to the need to adapt lessons online. In addition, we have a half day schedule that provides office hours that can be used for teacher collaboration during contracted time. I also have some specific examples of how highly effective educators are mentoring others during that time and high-functioning PLCs are taking their collaboration to the next level.

Hi Everyone! I'm Jan Yost (she/her), NHASCD Executive Director. I've been a member of ASCD for over 30 years! Phew..time flies!! I live on the Seacoast of NH with my husband. I'm really excited by the possibilities of this platform. I'm curious if we, as an educational system, will seize this opportunity to reinvent what public education looks like and shift the paradigm on how schooling addresses the needs of our students.
