Hello! My name is Ashanti Bryant Foster, but my students call me Dr. Ashanti. I am an ASCD 2013 Emerging Leader. After 20 years serving public schools students in the K-12 grades, I am now serving as the Education Department Chair of Prince George's Community College in Maryland. Here we have 10 teacher education programs and just started an Education Club for the Teacher Prep program students who are still in high school, yet earning an Associates in Teaching degree simultaneously.
I am curious about how student agency will continue to be developed throughout the next school year.4 -
Hello Dr. Ashanti- Welcome to the community. From my experience students when given a chance to use their voice enhance the learning environment, I look forward to hearing what happens with the program.1
-
Hi @Ashanti Foster ! I would love to hear more about your Education Club and Teacher Prep. Before coming to ASCD, I managed a Teacher Residency program and have a true passion for preparing the next generation of educators.0

Hello everyone!!! I'm Dr. Linda Johnson-McClinton (she/her). During the pandemic I retired from being a district office administrator (25 years in education), moved out of state, and started my own business. I am the Founder/CEO of LJM Educational Services LLC located in Nevada. I am excited about this platform because it will allow me to learn from/network with like minded people in education.
I'm curious as to what the field of education will take as "learning lessons" from the pandemic. How will teaching and learning evolve from what was learned besides the need to support and train staff and students on how to use educational technology? Will the lessons learned have a temporary implementation or will they begin a much needed pivot/revolution in education? Will there be evidence of a growth mindset?3 -
@Linda Johnson-Mcclinton it's great to meet you and learn of your important work! Such important questions with huge implications for education. Looking forward to finding answers together!1

Buenos dias a todos/Hello everyone. I am Jaime Antonio Castellano (he him, his), a former member of the ASCD Board of Directors, and a two-time Past President of Florida ASCD. I have been involved with ASCD for over twenty years. I am currently a professor at Florida Atlantic University, Department of Exceptional Student Education; and I also work in mental health; serving as a Behavioral Health Care Case Manager, providing direct services to primarily Hispanic students and adults with mental health challenges. My current work is with students identified as gifted, advanced, and high-ability who have trauma, toxic stress, and adverse childhood experiences (ACES). I live in Boynton Beach, Florida. What I am very curious about is when it rains; and why one side of the street gets the downpour and the other side remains bone dry.1

Hello my name is Karl Smith I'm a new member and am in the process of setting up the Agile World Institute an organisation focused on creating Agile based Curriculum for children and young adults. I myself am a Qualified Teacher and University Lecture but have spend most of my career working first in founding User Experience from 1989 and in evolving Agile from 2003. Hi everyone! I am so excited to be a part of the ASCD community. My name is Kendra Adams and my pronouns are she/her. I am a new (only one year in) administrator at a rural kindergarten to grade twelve school. I am located in a small town in southern Alberta. One thing I am currently curious about is how I can contribute to creating a culture in my school community where everyone believes that all children can learn, and high expectations for learning and behaving are upheld.

@Kendra Adams Welcome! The thing your curious about reminds me of a blog post that I recently revisited. I hope this sparks something in you like it did for me.0
-
@Kendra Adams Kendra: You might find my blogpost, Nine Ways to make learning more powerful- https://www.lifelonglearninged.com/blogs/suggestions - helpful as you think about how to create a culture where everyone believes that all children can learn...0

Thanks @Elliott Seif! Your blog post relates to a course I am currently taking on planning, instruction and assessment. In this course, we have learned about three different curriculum designs: learner-centered, subject-centered, and problem-centered. Your ideas about education seem to be very learner-centered. This was evident in your focus on utilizing students' interests, and providing opportunity for students to work collaboratively. Learner-centered curriculum designs are also often cross-curricular. What is your experience with integrating subject matter from various fields?0
